Dacre Dig Community Garden Project
The Dacre Dig Community Garden Project is based in the grounds of the Kingswood Halls and is sponsored by St Margaret’s Church.
It is open to all local residents, whether churchgoers or not, and is supported by Denny and Jackie, both qualified gardeners. Sessions are held twice a month on Fridays or Saturdays from 10am - 1pm.
The following dates for your calendar are:
- Saturday 25th November 10 am - 1pm
- Saturday 9th December 10am-1pm
email dacredig@gmail.com or call 020 83189643 for more information or to join.
The project aims to provide a space for the local community to come together and create a resource for local residents to enjoy. You do not need to be a gardening expert to join, just a willingness to get stuck in!
Denny explains that “volunteers are fully supported to be able to benefit from growing organic produce, and be part of a scheme to donate fresh food to those in our community who are in food poverty”.
Since the project began in early 2020 the site has been cleared, raised beds made and herb and flower gardens have been planted with the help and ongoing support of volunteers.
Project activities include:
-
digging,
-
building shelters
-
planting – with aspects of science and chemistry
-
environment care (recycling)
-
composting
-
craft
-
insect attracting/preservation
-
growing and cooking including meal budgeting and healthy eating
